Grandma Roses - my avatar is my real dog

It's an archaic word derived from the French verb 'huer' which means 'shout'; it is not the same origin as 'hue', meaning a colour or tint, which comes from the Germanic 'hew', meaning 'form, beauty.'

With help from the Concise Oxford Dictionary, Ninth Edition.
