  • Welcome to Earth, stranger. It's a good job you landed in California, just go to the Apple welcome station where you an learn about Earth customs and be issued with (and charged for) your very own iPod. It may seem strange at first but soon you'll find it indispensable. Once again, welcome to Earth, and invite all your friends. We're always looking for new marks^H^H^H^H^H visitors to help.
  • Probably one of the most important inventions of the 21st century so far - or so they'd have you believe!! Apple launches the I-pod and every single variation of it since. It's amazing to have the computer music library available digitally the way I-pod offers it. And the Itunes store makes almost every song available at the click of a button for a buck. Unfortunately, it tends to be kind of expensive and the product is updated constantly. Nevertheless - people want them because they are popular. And also, they are the simplest, "coolest" way to carry your music library around. Whether purchased online or importing your Cd's to online folders, the Ipod consolidates all music and makes your collection ideally stored. That being said, I don't have one!!!
  • It's the most popular digital music player in the world. Some people want it because it's a fashion icon. Most people want it because it beats any other player out there. Not everyone wants one. Have I got one? Yes I have.
  • I've resisted getting one for ages, because of the price. That, and the Zune, another expensive mp3 player. I just got a Creative Zen mp3 player a little over a month ago. I'm still getting the hang of downloading music. I like it for when I go out walking, or sometimes when I'm trying to get to sleep I love to listen to some music...and with my mp3 player I can do that and not disturb my s/o. Don't feel bad....still tons of folks who don't have one! The reason I like the Zen is because as I get older, it's really hard for me to read tiny print on some of those small screens, and the Zen has a big color screen on it. http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=16999
  • Lots of good information here already, so I'll add a few tidbits around the edges here. :) 1st - on definition, you've alreaady heard it's an electronic device to hold and play digital audio files. Some even play digital video files as well. 2nd - when you say "iPod"? That started out as the name of the device created and marketed by Apple. These days though, it's starting to take on a generic life .. much like the terms "kleenex" for all tissue brands and "xerox" for all photocopies. The more generic term would be "MP3 player" or "digital audio player" or "digital audio/video player" or "digital audio/video player and recorder". LOL You get the idea. 3rd - there are several brand names out now. As with any electronic device, you'll need to look at features and functions - design - ease of use - size of screen and player - support - extras available - etc 4th - others have talked mostly of music. For me? I'm interested in audio in other ways .. ie .. voices. I download PODCASTS in many subject areas. Genealogy. History. Many museums have one. It's like downloading regular radio programs. An example? One of my favorite genealogy podcasts is this one: http://www.genealogyguys.com 5th - there are online DIRECTORIES to locate podcasts in your areas of interest. There are ways to "sign up" to get updates without manually downloading or checking to see when new things are posted. Any podcast you like will most likely have past programs in an ARCHIVE. 6th - anything that's a digital audio or maybe video file is fair game. So, you can go download oral history interviews .. or go to the Internet Archives and find public domain material to download. Then? Carry any or all of that around on your player!
  • so you can have every song you ever owned in the palm of your hand.
