Well I don't really write poetry, but I do play the piano.

And my answer to all such questions is that we're most creative when we're most *alive*, which isn't necessarily a "high or low" point. To be alive means being able to experience this moment with great depth, being connected to a sense of true self, and having a clarity of presence that is visceral and vivid.

When I sit at the piano in that condition, wonderful things happen.

I write poetry when I am happily inspired. I have written a poem to each niece and nephew on their births and love their Auntie Ann has for them. When I'm at my lowest I like to play the piano. It's easier to bang on a piano than express my words when I'm really down.

Highest. At my lowest its as much as I can do to actually communicate normally, let alone write a poem.

My lowest for sure! I write my best stuff when I'm down I get everything off my chest and let my feelings out. That's why I write poetry!

Usually. The ones I write when I'm 'up' make people laugh sometimes. The ones I write when I'm 'low' sometimes creep them out.
I write poetry about the same whatever mood I'm in, but I only volutarily write it when I'm very up or very down.

I can't write poetry at all. It was always one of my least favorite assignments in English class.

I can only write properly when I'm in a sort of twilight state in between the two, if I'm too low, I can barely get out of bed, much less pick up a pen, and when I'm at my highest, I usualy have other, better things to do than write poetry.

absolute lowest. At my low, thoughts are racing through my head with rhyming speed. When I am at my highest, I am too busy or happy to sit down and think.

    Lowest.

My more insightful, emotional side comes out when I am down. When I am upset, I actually take time to think of why things happen.

When I am happy, I just am content with it and don't think twice about why I am happy. The words are all the same, and it just doesn't sound right, when I am more upbeat.

I tend to write at my best when I am detached or, more specifically not at a high or a low point but sort of, in the middle if you will. I think it differs for everyone though.
