In most countries the legal retirement age for men is 5 years older than for women, even though women live longer than men on average. Why do you think this is? Is this fair, or should it be changed?

As a man - do I think its fair - no. However, I think one of the reasons women live longer is that they dont stop working. We are meant to be living in an equal society, but women still do most of the housework, cooking etc. This Im sure is improving. But, when I look at a lot of old couples, the man sits watching TV whilst the woman runs around the house looking after him. The woman stays active and the man becomes less and less active. Men that live the longest - either dont retire - they carry on working past the retirement age, or they stop work much younger and are young enough to generate new interests. What I have typed has been generalisztions. I know lots of exceptions to these and like I said times are changing, so as men do more of their fair share of the housework etc, they should live longer too. I think I would still prefer to be waited on hand and foot if there are any takers out there... even if it does mean I die a bit younger. However, that isnt really fair on the fairer sex.
