I don't read an awful lot of non-fiction, although I own several poker books that I use as reference aids and find very valuable, so I don't really feel like I have an all-time favorite. I recently re-read Jim Rose's autobiography "Freak Like Me" (for those who don't know, he brought freakshows back into the mainstream for a little while in the early 90s, touring with Lollapalooza for a while amongst other things), I found that very entertaining. Currently I'm 2/3 of the way through "Game of Shadows", the book about the BALCO lab, Barry Bonds and steroid abuse in US sport... it is pretty good, a little dry in places since it sets out to be objective reporting rather than sensationalist, but it's a story I'm interested in so I am enjoying it.

I only read fiction, because if I wanted to read non-fiction I would read my textbooks from school, or my diary... either one counts, right?

Anyway, I prefer Fantasy and Sci-fi genres, but I'll read almost anything that someone I know recommends or buys for me.

My all-time fav is "On Beyond Zero" by Isaac Asimov, an excellent book on the mathematics of higher (and lower) numbers.

The most recent is "The Boer War" by Thomas Pakenham, a down-n-dirty account of the Boer War culled from historical docs and personal correspondence.

    Hope this helps.

I prefer fiction books, preferably something with a comedic edge to it. David Sedaris is the best dry humor writer; while his is more non-fiction, since they're stories from his life, I'm ussuming that he adds his on spin on each story.

Psychologically based mysteries. Jonathan Kellerman, James Patterson, Robert Parker, Lisa Scottoline, Patricia Cornwell. Throw in a little "chick-lit" and I'm good to go! (Nora Roberts, Jodie Picoult, Janet Evanovich, Jennifer Weiner)

Hmmm, one of my favorites is "Democracy in America" by Alexis De Toqueville. "The Social Contract" by Rousseau is also a good one. Other than cookbooks, the majority of non-fiction books I have read have to do with Politics and Political Theory.

Hm, not really a reading book... more of a picture book, with interesting captions and small passages on histories of the time era or people in them.

It has all of Life magazine's most highly-regarded photographers and their pictures, and they are really just amazing to look at. This is my recent favorite.

My one of my all-time non-fiction reads would be The Man Who Never Was by Ewen Montagu. Very good read.
