Lovely. I really miss Tennessee. I lived in the valley of the Ocoee River. It was so awesome.
It's kind of rectangular-ish.
laid back southern state of course.
Lived in Nashville for awhile. Love, love, love TN. I'd move there in a heartbeat. Maybe I will.
Tennesee is very pretty. I don't live there, but I have visited the smokey mountains quite a few times.
Very pretty, too green for me to spend a lot of time with my family there I suffer too badly with allergies.
Franklin is a very pretty colonial town
It was cold. And the hotel I stayed in was pretty seedy.
I live in Georgia, and went to TN for honeymoon in the mountains.
Will never go back, Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg had the rudest people i've ever met.
I was born here and I've lived my whole life in east TN at the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. It is beautiful. The weather gets pretty funky sometimes (70 one day, 30 the next in the early spring) and there is a hefty redneck population (but every state has its undesirables, no?) but all in all, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Friendly people, beautiful culture, and fantastic musical traditions!
I've never lived any place else.
Pros
1. the people are nice, except for the yankee transplants
2. Great weather all year around
3. Lots of outdoor recreation
4. No state income tax
Cons
1. The football fans are intolerable
2. Not enough snow
3. Did I mention the football fans?
4. Country music
Great state, especially Nashville. Actually the eastern 2/3 of the state is great. The eastern 1/3 is like living way way down in the South. The rest of the state is not like that as long as you stick with Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga. Nashville is very cosmopolitan, lots of people and businesses moving in from all over the country. Forbes magazine has rated Nashville the last two years as the 7th and the 8th best places in the country to do business.
Living here for 16 years, I can say that it's pretty typical for me. State with nice people, a warm climate, and lots of country music.
Positives
No state income tax.
Outdoor recreation (Appalachian trail, lakes)is great.
Politically more liberal than say, Alabama, to the south.
The college American football teams are interesting, Vanderbilt, MTSU, University of Tennessee.
Automobile racing is a very popular sport.
The professional football team, The Titans, is always competitive.
Generally, people are friendly.
Negatives
Politically right of center, Limbaugh could run for president and they would vote for him.
A lot of "Christians" here would vote "yes" to the question: Is torturing prisoners okay?
Many big cities, especially Nashville, are selling out, way overdeveloped, a city on steroids, sold out to developers.
Has a lousy mass transportation system in cities, none anywhere else.

I'll be vacationing to the Gatlinburg, TN area this fall. What must I see or where must I eat before heading home? (The less tour-isty the suggestion, the better.)

I live in TX now and there's no state income tax here either. There's also a bunch of flat land and shopping malls. I hate it.

I know, but if you ever meet anyone from Texas, have you ever noticed how much they LOVE Texas? I have a few friends who are transplanted Texans, and they never stop with the "everything is better in Texas." I just don't get it. I hope you get adjusted and are very happy there.
