  • Harley Davidson. I don't think I have to explain why.
  • The 1948 Vincent Black Lightning is my choice. It was advertised as 'The World's Fastest Standard Motorcycle' - and could have done so nearly twenty years after production end. 30 Vincent Black Lightnings were built during 1949-52; each was a custom order costing approximately $1,500. Weight saving features were Magnesium alloy brake plates, Racing tires mounted on light alloy rims, Rear-set foot controls, light weight solo seat and aluminum fenders reduced weight to 380 lb compared to the Shadow's 458 lb. Engine improvements were a combination of careful selection of standard parts, modification and tuning. Claimed power was 70hp and the Black Lightning was advertised capable of 150mph, based upon the 1948 speed record established by Rollie Free riding the first Vincent HRD Black Lightning to 150.313mph at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. This also produced one of the most famous motorcycle photographs, shown below on the right. Anything to reduce speed robbing drag. The second photo is a modern version from a company in California using a Honda engine and carbon fiber tank an fenders. I believe it is still not in production. The third photo is a Norton VR880 from Kenny Dreer my second more affordable choice.

  • SUZUKI HAYABUSA. Why do people put "hog, nuff said" ??? all that shows is some hillbilly got access to a civilised computer terminal. Why now answer some love questions too, I think one said I'm lookin for a wife, where you could say "boobs, nuff said" and he would instantly know who's the perfect girl now thanks to your awesome "american made" wisdom. 10 suzuki's and never will ever own anything american made (oh and my cars are all mercedes).
  • Yamaha YZF R1.... :) I need'nt say anything else ...
  • 1948 Indian Chief. Timeless, beautiful, elegant... oh how can I count the ways I love this bike. If I had to pick a more modern bike, it would be the 1976 750 Norton Commando. I have had my butt tossed kicking one of these. That thing earned my respect in many ways. The image of the Norton is just one pulled off of the net. It is not me on it. The '48 Chief is the UberBike to me though.
  • It depends on what I need to do with it. For despatching in London I have never found a better bike than the Honda VT500. Why? Because it cost me $300 to buy and at 30 grand a year over the years it earned me (gross) 240 grand, whichh paid for my home almost in full. It has no chain drive so I never bothered with tensioning/greasing it, no belt to snap or replace, etc etc. I just replaced consumables (whick were cheap and lasted ages, eg: brake pads 25.000 miles etc) and fed her petrol, at 65 miles to the gallon. It never let me down once and is a very relaxed bike to ride. So for riding/working, in other words miles to the penny it was gold.
  • Quiet, powerful, smooth, agile/quick, fast, and super comfortable all day long. The safest thing is that nobody notices you, so the traffic flows predictably and naturally, and you can slip right by. No wind noise, no buffeting or vibration, most people can't even tell that it's turned on and idling. But just think about being in a particular spot down the road, and zwwuup there you are. You have to be careful and disciplined about what you think. Train your mind to think only certain thoughts, because it moves with the speed of thought, and will instantly do whatever you think. It's basically a hidden dragon, graceful, breathing, alive,

  • I would say any classic bike. Harley, Indian, Norton and so on. They are all great bikes. Times have changed and so have the bikes. I really like my old school chopper. Down n dirty rigid, 80 cu in, Santee rigid frame, LaPera ass busting seat, with a 3" water slinging primary.
