  • Nope :(
  • yes! my family really likes the toffee i make
  • No, but my mother in-law can make toffee, peppermint creams and fudge, but i guess fudge doesn't count!
  • Sure, heat up some caramel in a pan on the stove, let it harden and you have very hard caramel. haha
  • I can and have...but I leave this part to my Mother. Hers always turns out better.
  • I can and I do, but usually only at Christmas time. I will be making it this weekend, then again, I am off work today (two days in a row, lucky me). I find it less of a mess if I make it in the microwave. The most requested flavors are Cinnamon and Wintergreen. Take care!
  • The answer to almost all of the “can I make my own at home” questions is yes. However, if people do not commonly make the item you are referring to at home then the more though answer is “Yes, but it isn't worth it unless you have special circumstances or are more interested in the process than the final result.” The investment in time, eduction, materials, and perhaps special equipment are greater than the cost of buying the hard candy in the value-sized container from Sam's Club.
  • Yes I have made candy before of all sorts. I don't do it often here in NY because the humidity is so much higher than it was in CA, but in the wintertime, it's easier to do.
  • I have never tried but if there was a recipe I am sure I could follow it.
  • Yes, I can. I just don't do it that often. My gram taught me how to make many kinds. Butterscotch discs are my favorite and thankfully they are easy to do.
  • Please let me say this first--I have a cousin who makes homemade chocolate creams and gives a small box out to her relatives at Christmas time. Boy do they taste great..Now on to hard candys: When I was in middle school the whole class had a project of making rock--candy. I probably dont remember the exact formulae but we took an 8oz. glass and put a stick across the top and tied a cotton string in the center of the stick--so it hung inside the glass without touching the bottom. Actually Sugar Crystals are rock candy. We would make up a solution something like 60% warm water and 30 or 40 % granulated sugar. Then stir. I remember it wasnt as thick as honey or as thin as gravy but if tasted it was dead sweet--maybe this will help. I remember some of it because after the class was thru with it--I continued on with it at home. It led me into being curious all over my home. take care
