Can suggest a Desktop publishing program that ia compatible with "PortableApps" on usb drive? i tried openoffice,org but its just to big/clunky, taking almost 250MBs. all i need is simple text and graphics manipulation for poster/flyer type documents

It's not really for publishing, but the Gimp can probably still fit your needs. It's very flexible and it's a portable apps install....which always makes things easier.

- theGimp is a little to "photoshopy" for me, didn't really like it.
  what i really need is something like Word with a little more picture insertion control.

- Abiword is pretty small, but I'm not sure how good the photo manip is.
