it's not a good use of the language, it's normal on young people but it should disappear as they grow up. I think it's annoying.
-
No they don't annoy me. Sometimes they can make a piece of writing more realistic, because these kind of phrases get used all the time in normal conversations.
-
The only time I can think off the top of my head that it annoys me badly is when I am really wanting to know something and have to wait through all the fillers.. otherwise I like a person's own little way of expressing themselves. Also, I think it depends on how you feel about the person.. if it is a friend.. it may be cute.. if it is someone you are not that close with.. it can be annoying.

It does annoy me, but they are often employed automatically by young people who are not so confident talking and need that time to allow their brain to think of what to say next. So they may not be aware of it or worse, are aware but hate it, which does make me feel a little sorry for them, like people with pronounced stutters. Unfortunately, often they do not grow out of this habit and it stays with them unless they actively do something about it. It's a bit like a nervous tic, it becomes part of them.

It doesn't annoy me because I say "like" all the time but can filter it out of my written work. Also, I know for a fact thet I can't go a whole day without using "like" as a filler
-
Word fillers are pretty pointless, they don't annoy me unless they are used to excess.
-
I overuse "like", but I know someone who says "you know" almost every other word out of their mouth. It makes it really hard to listen to that person speak.
-
When overused they are definitely annoying and generally lower my confidence in someone's intellect. Unfortunately, I am guilty of using "like" more than any person should in casual conversation. Etc, on the other hand, can be pretty useful. It lends itself to making a person conjure some additional examples in their head when reading. Making people think for themselves is an accomplishment anyone should be proud of in today's society.
-
Some people just don't have, like, a big vocabulary, you know?
-
Everyone uses them on occasion. Young people maybe need a little more time to think of something meaningful to say. It's annoying in older people to hear too many of them.
-
I don't let the little things bug me that much ... If that was all we had to be concerned about ... then life would be considered fairly good ... compared with others ...
-
Sometimes when someone answers a question, they will start with "you know.." but in reality: IF I KNEW, I WOULDN'T ASK THE QUESTION!!!!! I also remember Ronald Reagan's "Well...." when starting to say something. It wasn't that annoying, but we expect something better from the President.

It can be part of the expressiveness of a person. We're all individuals with our little quirks. Our speech patterns can be like "fingerprints." Certain people that I know are always saying certain unusual words or overusing certain words or rehashing the same topics or stories over and over again. It can make a person want to run away sometimes, like you know?
