He also, after the loss of his limb, would place all evils within the world upon the whale, and in a strange, monomaniac way, thought that if he destroyed the whale, he, too, would banish all evils in life. A bit hard to explain, one way of looking at it, in lesser terms, was that he was just a bit psychotic ;)
