  • The domain is the values of x that make the equation meaningful. Since you can not divide by zero the equation would not "make sense" if you tried to put in a zero in for x. x squared is zero. A number divided by zero is undefined and the equation is not meaningful at the value x = 0. You could actually simplify this equation to g(x) = 5/x + 25 but this does not change the domain. The domain is all values of x except x = 0. In other words x can be any value except 0 because the equation makes sense unless x = 0. Of course different equations have different domains.
