  • It's partially psycological but mostly sociological. They see the 'typical' girl who's all popular and all perfect, and they want to be her...or like her. It is dumb and desperate to think you're fat when you clearly aren't. What we need is more lean female actors.
  • I don't know. My 11 years old sister is like 50-60 pounds and she is always like "i need to loose weight... I'm fat" It pisses me off a lot. there are tons of chicks that I know who are really thin and are always Like "OMG! I'm like so like fat." Sometimes I just want to strip then naked and put them in a room filled with naked fat women and be like "you still think you are fat you dumb bitch. Look at these other girls. They are fat and it bothers then every minute of every day. You are a sexy twig who has a perfect body. Stop complaining and apologize for being a stupid loud mouth." I do think it's for the attention. Maybe it's an inside joke that they say to their skinny friends just to piss fat people off.
  • It does appear to be an attention seeking behaviour - in order to hear the response that they are not fat and they look good. Some people probably do see themselves as fat when they are not, but most girls know when they are skinnier than their friends.
  • Some want the attention - to be told they're not fat. Some really do think they're fat, because they don't look like a supermodel. They have a warped body image and self image.
  • I would suggest they feel insecure in themselves. For some reason there is always the pressure these days to be skinny and beautiful.
  • Well 50-60 pounds is average for an 11 year old and NOT underweight
  • A lot of times they are just insecure about themsleves and need reinforcement. Sometimes there is a deeper issue. Just tell them to stop being insecure, they look great... blah blah blah... and let them know they are insulting those around them who are not as thin as they are. That is what worked for me... good luck and great question!
  • Body Dysmorphic Disorder is becoming more and more common. Don't assume that it's attention-getting behavior; many really think they're fat. Others are just following along; a lot of it is social conditioning - they're learning it not only from each other but from outside sources they view as authoritative, like the mainstream media.
  • Usually they just want attention and compliments so they say "im so fat" and everyone else says "omg no youre not!" thats exactly what they want!
  • A lot of teen girls suffer from low self esteem and body image disorders where the individual's rating of her body features does not fit with that of an observer. Also because of teen idols like Nicole Ritchie , Kiera, Paris, Linday, Olsen twins, Hilary Duff (list goes on..) girls are made to believe that the thinner the better.
  • well. everyone is constantly telling me that I am very thin. But in all seriousness I believe I am extremley fat and I honestly think I need to loose weight. I want no attention, but its always on my mind and it's hell. It's not attention seeking for all. It's an honest to goodness thing they see when they look in the mirror.
  • They say that because they're brats. Too skinny is too ugly.
  • I think that some girls feel insecure. I think that they are looking for someone to tell them otherwise. I know it's cold, but I know someone who'll just agree with them because he's so sick of hearing girls say that they are fat or that they don't look pretty in pictures because he figures that they wouldn't show the pictures if they thought they were bad and that they wouldn't wear the clothes they do if they really thought they were fat. What really bothers me is when a person skinnier than me comes up to me to tell me how skinny I am and how they'd give anything to somehow trade. A body isn't what makes a person. We all grow and age differently.
  • Yes, attention, someone to say "haww you're not fat at all, you're SO SKINNY LOL LOL"
  • Em yeah....because their dumb asses want to hear that they are skinny. I need people to tell them that they look decent because they know they are and want everyone else to know they are too!!! They are stupid!!! Next time you should just say OMG...YEAH YOU ARE!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
  • The vast majority of North Americam women have some sort of eating disorder, either much too much, or not enough. The thinnest ones are usually the ones obsessed with getting thinner ... when they begin to see the slightest trace of fat, they exagerate and say they are huge ... while at the other extreme, the ones that eat much too much see themselves as normal as they gain more and more fat. All these eating disorders, behaviour problems, and the health risks that come with them, are the result of incomplete and inaccurate lessons we have taught our females as they grow to womanhood. Since they have not been taught any better, they think that they are being "RIGHT" when they do these things.
