The storage tank will be equipped with a pump and a hose, with a fitting to connect to a smaller tank (e.g., 20-lb barbeque tank, forklift tank). The type of fitting may be different in different environments.

Connect the supply fitting to the tank, open the tank valve, open the tank vent (if present), turn on the pump, and open the supply valve. Small tanks are usually filled by weight. Larger tanks may have a gauge. The equipment and guidelines can vary depending on the system in use at the site.

Some some propane tanks are not designed to be refilled or can only be refilled with special equipment.

Do not do this unless you have been checked out on the equipment at your workplace. It's a safety issue - LPG is volatile and may be present as a liquid or a vapour.
