  • Personally, I would take it to the police & let them deal with it. They would better be able to determine if the person claiming it was valid. Also, no ad fees.
  • Personally, I'd consider keeping the cash and put the wallet in the nearest mailbox so that the postal service could return it to the owner.
  • A week at most. After that, you tried your best, and there's no point wasting your own money, your conscience would be clear.
  • If you found it near a public building, like a store or bank, I would go in and leave my name and phone number in case someone went in there looking for it. If that is not an option or was of no help, then I would give it to the police.
  • I would wait a week and then "bank it".
  • Maybe a week or so and then go buy a new TV
  • I'd return it to the manager of the closest place you found it or return it to the police. If not you and you want to keep the ad in I'd say until you found the owner. Who knows they could split some of the money with you or something. : )
  • Just for me personally, I would keep it in the bank for a couple of months, and keep a notice posted near where I found it. Then again, I really don't need the money, so there wouldn't be much temptation involved.
  • About two weeks.
  • I would file a report with the cops, if after a time it is not claimed, then you get to keep the cash.
  • I'd let it run a week then if it was still unclaimed I'd claim it, end of story.
  • It was found on your land, no ID, and you can't trust the local cops. Leave the ad run for one week. Wait two more weeks to see if anyone will claim and can identify the wallet. After that I'd say you made an honest attempt to find the owner and it's finders keepers. What's left of the $1800.00, after the ad payment, is yours to keep.
  • I'd probably run the ad for the whole week and maybe see if I could find a cheaper place to have an ad, even posting on bulletin boards asking for exact descriptions or not to bother calling. I'd file a report of finding it with the police if there are local police or state ones. And I would wait at least a month before even beginning to think of the money as mine to keep.
  • 1. If you assume you are not likely to find the real owner you can bargain with the ad agency to run the ad for a year for $1800. 2. If you think the owner will see the ad and come to claim it then go it one day at a time to the day the owner comes and claims his wallet. This way you can save as much of the money as possible for the owner. If I ware you I will go for the second option.
  • Run the ad for 2 weeks, wait three months and if noone claims it then the universe wants you to do something good with the money ;0)
  • I would say 2 weeks...It was found in a wooded area, so who's to say they are even from your town? Good luck with that!
  • You have already got alot of good answers so I am just going to say wow what a great person you are to do this and I wasn't sure if there were many people left in this world that would do a thing like this. My hat is off to you. I bet your phone will be ringing off of the hook though with people trying to claim it. Did you say how much money was in the wallet in the ad or what the wallet looked like? Hope not...but anyways. You are being a good honest person and you will be rewarded for that I am sure.
  • You found it? Thank goodness...I never thought I'd see that money again. J/K... I'd keep it a week then if nothing....keep it.
  • I just looked at the first answer, oh boy (man), in your property! Don't you think somebody is sending you a message? Have fun, good christmas, my friend. ;) LOL
  • About half an hour :-)
  • I wouldnt have paid to be a good samaritan. I would have called the newspaper and see if they would run it for free, Lost and found usually is free of charge. Never mention the amount. But seeing as you already did it one or two days is enough. if you dont hear 30 days id say its yours.
  • That's very honest of you .. and it's not cheap for that ad! I would run the ad for a week or 10 days ... no response - it's yours.
  • 1 week
  • Why did you place an ad? You should have just taken it to the police.
  • I lost a wallet the other day with about $1800.00 in the woods. Has anyone seen it? LOL
  • A week to 10 days.
  • I would take it to the police and let them handle the situation... although I believe in some precincts you get the money if it isn't found after x amount of time...
  • I would run the add once a week for a month, the Sunday paper.
  • 225 days or 32 weeks
  • People don't start reading the small ads in the papers because they've lost something. Where I come from, they call the police to see if its been handed in. What you are doing is either incredibly (and expensively) kind, or else based on the firm expectation of a reward (which is outrageous and tantamount to blackmail). I'm sure you're being kind and magnanimous but give up and just hand it in to the police.
