I like both, tending to prefer representational art. Some modern art that makes interesting social commentary is very engaging as well, such as the work of Jenny Holzer. I once had a boyfriend who only liked art that had pictures of big breasted women, like the gal on the Rumpleminz bottle. To each his/her own I suppose...

It depends, I suppose I like a bit of both. I love most of the works by Da Vinci, Van Gough and Monet to name a few, and I guess they're traditional, but I also adore Pop Art. I don't like the really old landscape pictures painted in muted colours, they depress me, nor do I like modern pieces like the one where Tracey Emin displayed an unmade bed and called it 'art'.

Traditional , I love Poisson and Degas. If I am looking at a Ballerina I like to know which are her legs. I just have this thing that i prefer to know and find beautiful something I am looking at without having to work hard at deciding what it is.

I prefer traditional art because it is more straight forward. It relies more on realism and when dicussing these paintings ,we talk about what is going on in the painting. The modern art that is abstract is more of an artists interpretation of what they see.The observer then must image what the artist is trying to say, because it is not straightforward.I have been to abstract artists openings, with everyone drinking wine.Everyone has a deep opinion of what the artist is saying, but since one can only see it from thier own point of view, discussion is mind opening but not usefull.
