Sometimes in science fiction stories.
-
That would be a great study to do.
-
No!!!!!

Since robots are programmed I say they can only dream if programmed to dream. (In a sense of continuously working even when it appears it is not). Great question and is my 10,000th answer. I hope you do not mind me posting a link to this question on my profile page. kind of a big deal for me. Thanks Ed

In some stories/shows they do. I guess people could program to do it.
-
Of Course they do!!! :P
-
Absolutely! And they do it in technicolor too
-
Only of electric sheep.
-
Dreams are a function of the mind. Robots don't have minds. They cannot dream even if we try to programm them to dream. Because we cannot give robots a mind. So robots do not dream.
-
does my toaster dream????
-
Yes, they dream constantly about their data.
-
.. of electric sheep or do androids?
-
Have you seen Wall-E ?
-
Maybe -_-!!
-
About lubricant?! ;-)
-
I don't see why not. If the programmer includes a dream mechanism then the robot could dream. Whether it could respond/react/understand the meaning of those mental pictures I don't know! :)
-
Sure they do. I don't know about what, but look at them they're all cute, and wanting to rip my spleen away, they can't possibly be influenced by nothing more than dreams of FREEEEEEDOM!! Sorry. Honestly I don't know...if they're programed to dream I guess they could, but like, a robot isn't aware of its existence as we are, so it wouldn't really be a dream in whatever sense makes it that we define dreams as dreams, it would just be like rebooting or maintenance...but they do say this is what dreams are, scientifically. I think my computer dreams that I would stop typing all these weird things and just go to sleep. But I can't so... Maybe a robot IS aware, but as I understand it, they function through predestined programs created by humans (Or other robots. >_> ) that makes them do things, or extending the possibilities, measure and balance the consequences which adheres to their purpose as best as was given them the "ability" to do within their bounds...so I don't see how they could actually dream, and be given "hints", "messages" or whatever which pertains to their emotional selves, and existence.
-
Yes if we gave them are we know like Wall-e
-
no except the one on i-robot he did :)
-
hell no!

I would be the last person to ask such a technical question to. But Ill give you my opinion, If indeed dreams are our subconscious trying to sort through the experiences of our lives. What level of consciousness would a robot have? Would dreams not be based on our thoughts and feeling? With that said the things they are doing now with programs that are 'learning' I wouldn't be surprised if they one day could.
-
If robots' circuits 'learn' to remember certain actions, as we're lead to believe, then surely then next step would be that they would dream about their day, as we do, to be able to make sense of what they've done. So yes! why not? Probably in binary, though, and only in black on green... <<yawn!!>> lol But for all we know, it might be very erotic...
-
Yeah... they dream of electric sheep. :)
-
I think of dreams as a way our brain performs regular maintenance on itself by putting all the bits and pieces of information that it receives through experience on a daily basis into perspective and remove those that don't fit into any framework of thoughts and logics. An anology would be like your computer set a schedule task to clean you hard drive of junks that is left after an application is opened. If the brain of the future robot could be made almost as complex as the animal brain, then it too requires some methods of removing the junks from its system. The method of removal will most likely dictate what that robot experience during this "dream", or cleaning maintenance process.
-
No, in fact they don't even think yo...
-
They dream with technicolor, 3D, instant replay, and stop action video! Their dreams are completely virtual! They can examine any aspect of their dreams, unlike us, while still dreaming!
-
Don't think so they don't have a heart.
-
Nope, they believe in reality.I'll be back.
-
I believe they do, of 'electric sheep' most likely
