This doesn't answer your question about what to buy but it might tell you what not to buy. This was in today's (?) news:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The marketers of four weight-control pills have agreed to pay a total of at least $25 million to settle allegations of deceptive advertising, the Federal Trade Commission announced Thursday

The four are Xenadrine EFX, CortiSlim, TrimSpa and One-A-Day WeightSmart.

The FTC alleged that the companies' weight-loss and weight-control claims were not supported by evidence.

The companies also agreed to limit their advertising claims.

"You won't find weight loss in a bottle of pills that claims it has the latest scientific breakthrough or miracle ingredient," said FTC Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras in a written statement. "Paying for fad science is a good way to lose cash, not pounds."

The money will be used for refunds, said FTC spokeswoman Jacqueline Dizdul. "They give back their ill-gotten gains," she said.

I am deathly afraid of taking that stuff. Who knows what it might do to you or it might not do anything at all. Just cut down on portion sizes, drink more water and get some exercise.
Plus, you look thin to me.

They are all junk, relying on stimulants in one form of another, high doses of B-complex vitamins, and/or diuretics to have some effect. What you lose is generally water weight that is gained back as fast as it is lost.

If there was a diet pill out there that truly worked, everyone would be thin. Think about it.

Most diet pills contain some kind of stimulant like ephedra or caffeine. There is confusion between increased energy and a speedy metabolism. Just becuase you're heart is racing doesn't mean your metabolism is burning fat.

Read any stories of successful weight loss. Nearly without exception, the people who dropped the weight will tell you they did it through proper diet and exercise. Vitamins and some supplements may aid the process. Good luck, and stay away from those pills!

I'm taking appetite suppressents rather than diet pills, in the long run I don't think diet pills are especially good for your health. I've heard of Orlistat (or Ali) which basically helps you to lose an extra pound to every pound you lose I think it has to be prescribled because you have to have a BMI of 25+ to get it.. can't say I've tried it I've heard it makes you poo yourself. I'm taking a combination of Acai Berry, Ghreleptin and Colon Cleanse, hoodia is also meant to be good but it doesn't work for me. My dad always says however that pills just have a "placebo" effect, if you believe they work for you they'll work because you'll make them work.

    Fuchozanthin.

But it cannot be taken by people with thyriod issues as it is rather high in iodine.

It works like a dream... It is a Japanese Brown seaweed that consumes visceral fat.

Don't do it. I took diet pills for a year, and it's 4 years later and I'm still getting over some of the side-effects. It's not worth it. Just diet and exercise, you'll be glad you did it the conventional way.

Any ordinary sugar pill or vitamin pill will do the trick. One a day. The important thing is not to eat anything else at all.

well stop looking, you will just be sucked into the diet world, make time for 3 meals a day, breakfast the most important(make your meals as healthy as possible)and fruit as a snack, now step it up and do away with gas coldrinks, crisps and sweets, have a treat now and again, only a treat i said.lol.now you can take it a step higher and add an enjoyable bit of exersice whatever it may be(good for the ticker and all)and remember eat to live dont live to eat,if these diet pills worked there would be no fat people, they prey on desperation, one diet after the next never works, all the best.
