  • I think it depends on the kid. I know some 18 year old's that should be supervised at all times
  • When the oldest is old enough and mature enough to babysit the others on his or her own. I would say mid teens.
  • I think 13 is the legal age as long as they are mentally able to care for themselves
  • Check your state regulations before leaving your child alone to make sure you aren't breaking any laws, some states have passed laws against leaving children under certain ages home alone. But if you feel they are mature enough and can take care of themselves while you are away it's really your decision, children vary by age and maturity when it comes to leaving them alone. Also you might see if a neighbor will be home during the time you are gone just in case something does happen the first few times you leave them.
  • In my opinion 16 is the age they no longer need someone watching out for them.
  • 10 or 11
  • It should be 14 years. By then they should be able to take care of themselves.
  • I think it would depend on the child. I can leave my 12 year old while I walk a short way up the road to the postbox or to the local pharmacy for 20 minutes tops. He's fine. I cannot leave my 14 year old nor will I ever be able to even when he's an adult because he's severely disabled and will need care for the rest of his life.
  • my mom started leaving all of us alone for short times when the oldest of us turned 13. once he (the oldest of us, there are 6 of us total) turned about 16 she wasn't so worried and left us home alone for longer periods. but even when i was 18 & living at home, she still never left us home alone overnight.
  • I think maturity is more important than age! : O )
  • That depends on the kid. At 9, I was more responsible than my babysitter. She set the couch on fire. I called the fire department, although I had to get around her to do it. I never had a babysitter again. Some people could still use one at thirty.
  • Really depends on the child, and maturity
  • I think 12 is a good age, to start leaving them home for a couple hours at a time.
  • When they have demonstrated enough maturity and responsibility to be left by themselves for short periods of time.
  • I'm sure it depend on where you are. In England it was 12 to be left alone, minimum age for babysitter 14. The child in question can also make a difference of course
  • IT DEPENDS UPON THE KIDS BUT I THINK NOT MORE THAN 6-8 YRS
  • In NZ, legally its 14, but........
  • well in canada, a babysitting licence can be obtained at 11, but a child of 11 should not be left alone with younger children. maybe 2 or 3 11-13 year olds before they can be left alone with younger kids. If it is an only child, i believe 12 is an adequate age to be left alone, if the child is responsible, and in a safe evironment
  • When they can be responsible and trusted.
  • Given the fact that my 8 year old displays more responsibility and maturity than his 12 year old brother, I would say that it depends entirely on the child. I wouldn't leave a child under 12 by themselves, but then there are plenty of 12 year olds who shouldn't be left alone becaue they are just not ready!
  • I stopped needing one at approximately age 4, when I could reach the fridge. Aside from that, I've never actually had one.
  • 12 is the "legal" age that children can be left alone for a SHORT period of time. But there are those children who are older than 12 that need constant supervision. So, it really varies with each family. Just make sure that the child knows what to do in case of an emergency. Remember, anything can happen while you are gone: choke on food, fall and get hurt. And lots of other little things that we sometimes don't think of. Its always the small things that go wrong and not always the easy answers like a break in or fire.
  • Well if only for an hour or two I think 11 is a good age but if it's for longer no younger than 14.
  • It depends on the child. I was babysiting at the age of 12... while my mom still feels nervous about leaving my 13 yr old sister home alone for too long.
  • in my opnion its parents look after baby espacialy mom to teach baby how to move and stand and take a step to walk.papa always be happy and care too when baby nows what he has to do next
  • by law an 11 year old can stay home by themselves during the day. They can stay by themselves alone at night at age 12 and up.
  • i think it depends on the kid en where u are, in uganda even a 4yr old cab be left alone
  • Legally, here in NZ, a child under 14 can not be left alone. That's the minimum, and just 'cos it's legal doesnt make it ok. It would depend on the maturity and sensibility of that child and whether they could handle any circumstances that may come up.
  • i say 14
  • at 14 when they can fuck somebody but on a serious note when they are 2
