Considering that stores put Christmas stuff out the second Halloween is over with I would say Yes, it is appropriate if you wait til after Thanksgiving.

Just put them up when you want, take them down when you want and enjoy them in between.

If you REALLY want to be sure what you do is acceptable to (most of?) your neighbors, watch them and put your decorations up when someone else leads the way.

Yes, though many do it the day after thanksgiving. After all, the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade ended with Santa Claus.

Some people leave them up year round! But in minnesota you do it on the last warm day of november. Of course I quess wrong and end up putting them up in December at 20 below. So if it 40 in november, up they go.

About 20% of the neighbors have their lights up now.
While mom is cooking the Thankgiving dinner - it is customary around here for the dads and sons to put the Christmas lights up outside. The day after Thanksgiving- if we aren't shopping- the tree goes up.
Then we spend the remaining weeks decorating it and the house.
By the time Jan. 1st comes along- we are sick of everything and tear it all down on our last day off before we go back to work.

    Sure.

In the US, lots of people decorate (fully or at least get a good jump on it) on the friday following Thanksgiving (thursday).

For me? It's a lot of work to deck the halls and hardly seems worth the effort if you decorate just before the end of the month .. the holiday comes and goes .. and it's time to pack up again. LOL!

So yes, MUCH better to decorate then live in it .. enjoy it .. get into it .. for a full month at least! :)

why not, i send out my christmas cards postmarked the first of december. a christmas tree can tend to dry out by the twenty fifth. it can be a real bad fire hazard by then.
