I really need a laptop for college. Right now I go to USC and am using a desktop. Desktop in college=no fun. :( I'm paying for my own college, so obviously I can't afford an expensive laptop. What company and model will give me the most bang for my buck?

I reccomend HP or Toshiba, as my friends have reported good experiences with those brands. You can go online to sites such as bestbuy and enter a price range to narrow down the results. Newegg is a great place to buy computers and accessories, because their products ship quickly and have good service policies attached.

here is a couple web site's that you can look though and maybe find one that fits you price range, as for brand, most any are OK just stay away from Vista bit and don't recommned Dell or Gateway just for the reason that is you have to buy parts you must buy their parts and if you buy HP, acer asus etc you can easier parts.

Try EBay & look for a reputable dealer selling refurbished used laptops. We just bought a couple of IBM Thinkpads for less than $300 apiece -- they work perfectly & come with a hard drive like new- -- no evidence of previous users.
