    The bombing took place during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). The town was bombed by government forces fighting the "republicans" who were progressive leftists. It was a massacre that Picasso was able to capture like no one else. The Spanish Government was linked to the Nazis, but they were not involved in this event.
