As far as I am aware, you need an analog modem. Support the return of the avatar: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/111472

AR is correct. It does not work via broadband. It is, however, possible to be connected via broadband AND have an analogue connection if you wanted. I would recommended you ditch that idea though and subscribe to an internet Fax service such as: http://www.faxaway.com/ or http://efax.com/ (There are many more.)

You do need an analog modem, however you can have a dsl connection and still use your analog. They give you filters to plug in to your phone lines to filter out the dsl signal so it doesn't interfere with your phone service. In order to use your analog modem, you will need to use one of these filters on it to prevent the dsl signal from messing with your faxes. This is what I do, and it works fine. Since I have the verizon freedom package that allows me to dial anywhere in North America for no extra charge, subscribing to yet another service through the internet is just more money out of my pocket for something I am already capable of, and I don't send/receive that many faxes. If you are concerned about tying up your phone line with many faxes, the internet fax solution may be worth it to you. You'll have to evaluate your needs.

Hi Sjorse, I agree with Nevets-Badgicide. Hundred of companies are now using online services such as internet faxing. There are free and paid services you can find online. One of the best I can share with you is http://www.ringcentral.co.uk
