It could be allergies, but there are other causes of chronic sinusitus. A freind of mine had constant sinus problems with congestion and headaches and frequent infections as a result of having a deviated ceptum. Since having it corrected, he not only breathes much more easily, he hasn't had a single cold or sinus infection.

The only way to be sure is to consult a doctor. Start with your family doctor before looking for a specialist.

It could definitely be allergies and I highly suggest seeing an allergist to ascertain the cause and get treatment. However, it could also be caused by acid reflux disease. I know it sounds like an odd connection, but I've had the same problem and saw an allergist just this past week. After she ruled out every major allergen, she suggested that acid reflux might be the problem (even though I thought my heart burn was at normal levels) and gave me some Nexium. Slowly but surely, I've been clearing up over the past few days. Unfortunately it does tend to take a while to get out of the cycle of many chronic conditions.

According to Asian style medicines nasal congestion is a result of the body throwing out Yin toxins such as dairy and sugars. As it is now Autumn and the bodies time of the year for eliminating then your body is taking this opportunity to get rid of toxins it does not need for healthy function.
However if you keep putting these things into the body then it will keep throwing them out. If this goes on for extended periods like weeks then it would be a good idea to try and stop eating mucus producing foods and let the body get rid of the excess before it creates an infection.
