How do I change the fuel filter in a 1998 ford taurus? I have a P1131 trouble code. I changed the spark plugs and plug wires, but I have never changed the fuel filter, 186,000 miles on it

you have an insufficient switching oxygen sensor
sensor is making the car run lean

g.leslie is right. Easy to find and replace.Watch just for some pressure when disconnect, a small pan for some gas under will help. I changed today 04/14/07. Cost me $7.99 in auto zone.VIO

P1131 indicates just one bank lean. So it probably isn't the fiter. Although, concidering the mileage, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and change it. I would look for injector problems. Clogged or sticking injector or possibly an injector wiring problem. Were there any injector fault codes? Also, fuel rail corrosion is a common problem.

- I am not sure that the filter is in the tank. It should be located on the passenger side it the area where the doors are usually about 8-10 inches in.

- I can't remember where it is on each individual vehicle. I just know the trend was towards putting everything fuel related in the tank itself a few years ago.
