Right now, Google doesn't have any competitors that play in the same league. There are some that would like to, though. Microsoft has recently re-started its own searching service. As of now, its results aren't as good as Google's, though, but they did copy a lot of features from Google (like cached pages) and introduced some new ones. Some other search engines trying to detrone Google are Teoma: http://www.teoma.com/ WiseNut: http://www.wisenut.com/ AllTheWeb: http://Alltheweb.com/ Ask Jeeves: http://www.ask.com/ a9 http://a9.com/ (a9 belongs to amazon.com and uses the results from Google, but ads some additional things on top of that) Some search sites don't really compete with Google anymore. Instead, they buy their search results from other companies. Yahoo and AltaVista, for example, buy their search results from Overture. Lastly, Slashdot recently had a Link to a comparison of Search Engines. BBC Online compared Google, MSN, Yahoo and Ask Jeeves. Both the discussion at Slashdot and the original article are interesting if you want to know about the current state of search engines: http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/11/13/1915233 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4003193.stm
