If you were alive in the year 100 B.C., would you be counting years based on some calender system or maybe perhaps on the years of a kings rule or what ??? any ideas.?

It would depend on where you were living. In Rome you would be counting years from the founding of Rome (about 753 BC by our system).

Lunar calendars are believed to be the oldest calendars invented by mankind. Cro-Magnon people are claimed to have invented one around 32,000 BC.
