I know Muslims view Jesus as an important prophet (if not God himself in human form), but how does Islam view the Old Testament?

I was just thumbing through old questions and saw this one...sorry for the 1.5 year old post. Muslims view Jesus PBUH as a very important prophet. In arabic, his name is pronounced Isa and he is still the prophet that is to come in the end of days.

We see Isa as a healer and everything that the bible says about him we agree with.

As for differences, we DO NOT see him as God. We view God as the alpha and the omega and all powerful and all knowing. There is no seperation of God and no way to break God into segments as the trinity does.

We also DO NOT believe that Isa PBUH is the son of God. Saying this implies that there was a relationship between God and Mary. We do believe in the immaculate conception and the birth of Isa is a miracle, it doesn't however dictate any form of relationship between Mary and God. Isa PBUH was a prophet and a man, that puts him on the level of normal men although we revere him for his prophecy.

The other big difference between the Islamic and Christian view of Christ is the crucifixion. The crucifixion is the crux point of Christianity that defines the religion. It's the key reason to believe if you are Christian. We don't believe that Allah would allow one of his prophets to be degraded, humiliated, and murdered by a heathen. We believe as the Qur'an has told us, that Isa PBUH was recieved to heaven without dying. Allah, most merciful, took Isa PBUH to heaven before he was crucified and sent the guard that was supposed to be bringing Isa PBUH to the cross in his place and made him look like Isa. Thus, a heathen was crucified and Isa PBUH was spared.

That is how we view the importants of Jesus.

As far as the old testament, we believe that it is a holy book. Very accurate and very forthcoming. In the Qur'an, we are told to read the old scriptures and understand them. We see Christianity as a book learned religion and a respectable one. The difference though is that Allah himself wrote the Qur'an and the old testament was written by many men and sent from hand to hand to hand and retranslated many times. The chance for error in a book written by man versus a book written by Allah is something many people don't consider when they look at a Muslims devotion to the Qur'an.

I hope this answers your question as it has been my pleasure to answer it.

La Illaha Il Allah, Muhammadar Rasul Allah

The same way as the Christians and almost as the Jews. The Old Testament is the Holy book of the Jews-The Torah, a collection of teachings by prophets that came before Jesus. The Christians use this as a reference for some teachings but mostly see it as out-dated. Due to the fact that there is now a new way of doing things, the prophet Jesus' way of doing things. The Musilms also see the Old testament as out-dated, they have the prophet Mohammed to follow. So the Muslims also see the New Testament as out-dated.

Jesus was not a prophet and He never claimed to be. What He was was the Son of God..hence God...just as He said unambiguously. If He was not what he said then He was a liar or a lunatic and He was neither. What muslims "believe" is not even mildly interesting in terms of Christian dogma. I don't confuse what islam "says"..it is a false religion dreamed up by a epileptic pedophile who was jealous of the religions of Judaism and Christianity.
