I love gyros and I worked in a Greek restaurant for about four months. The sauce is tzatziki and its made by grating cucumbers finely and added yogurt, garlic, and salt. Add enough yogurt until it is the consistency you like, and add the spices to taste.

I do. They are very tasty! And a handful! lol!

I've tried many different tzatziki (dressing) sauces. I love the one tht Alton Brown came up with. It's got great balance:-)

    Tzatziki Sauce:
    16 ounces plain yogurt
1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeded, and finely chopped
    Pinch kosher salt
    4 cloves garlic, finely minced
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
5 to 6 mint leaves, finely minced

Place the yogurt in a tea towel, gather up the edges, suspend over a bowl, and drain for 2 hours in the refrigerator.

Place the chopped cucumber in a tea towel and squeeze to remove the liquid; discard liquid. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the drained yogurt, cucumber, salt, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, and mint. Serve as a sauce for gyros. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a week.

    Yield: 1 1/2 cups

Aaaaah! I absolutely LOVE them! I had a version of it a few nights ago. Oh wow, it was good.

    The dressing...
I made it with Greek yogurt (From trader joes), thinly chopped cucumbers, and lots and lots of garlic. ;) And a pinch of dill if you wish. :)

If you mean the garlic sauce, i know it to be tzatziki (greek yoghurt/cucumber) with garlic in it (yum).

Love them but the places around here use too much salt.

The sauce is easy and you can use some sour cream too. make sure the yogurt is drained and the cucumber is seeded.

    Best recipe is here:

the white sauce is called Tzaziki. It is made with plain yogurt (Fage greek yogurt is the best), chopped, squeezed out cucumbers, a splash of olive oil and vinegar, salt and pepper. Let it "steep" in the fridge for at least a couple of hours. the longer it sits, the more delicious it becomes
