He was and is 13.I have complete access to it.I have blocked all his contacts except for the ones we know.He was getting some real bad popups and emails from "Join Now!" to "You can win 100$" SO I had to explain AGAIN about the dangers of giving out emails and passwords.So his account is very limited and he has 6 riends on that he can chat with.ANd no face book.The kids are so cruel on there.They back stab each other left and right.Terrible!

It was the other way around. My son has been into computers for years..he is now a College Professor and is in the Library and Information Science and Computer Sciences Department..in fact, when he was in the 4th grade he was involved in an after-school computer program and he programmed something that resulted in a picture of a unicorn for me. But I digress. A few years ago he gave me his computer and printer when he purchased another..he had set up an email account for us. Whenever I have problems with the computer I go to him or my "second son" for assistance, guidance, advice. It sure helps to have a doctor in the family..computers being his theatre of operation! :)

About 8. We were moving from Georgia to Indiana and we set it up so he could email his friends in GA. He's 10 now. He rarely uses it.

12, but there were and still are certain restrictions and conditions. One is, they know that I can read their emails. I don't much anymore, because after doing so for a year or two you know who they talk to and who they dont. Two is, you abuse it you lose it. Three is, we had a long talk about sexual predators and appropriate information to share. Mostly the email is non threatening, contact with friends from school. It's Internet stuff, especially my space and facebook, that is most invasive, and for that my kids have to be 16 and they have to link me to their page. Yes I have a page on both systems.

i got mine when i was 19 but i didmt let my parents have one until they were in their forties
