Went to work at a restaurant. I worked one day and the next day they had gone out of business. They didn't tell anyone. They just didn't open the doors. Customers were waiting outside as well as employees and nobody knew anything. Really weird

It was kind on an interesting experience over several months to see the big box slowly widdle down to an empty warehouse.
Not a retail business. I worked for a company that re-engined DC-8 planes. There were a limited number of them in the world and new ones were no longer being manufactured, so we knew when the company began that it would eventually close down. The shutdown took a couple of years and everyone knew about it before being hired. But the salaries/bonuses and benefits were fantastic. There was no crepe being hung when we shut down..but I think in a retail store where you have the expectation of it lasting "forever" and establish relationships with regular customers, it would be a very hard thing to have to say goodbye! :(
