That would be great. Geothermal is a plentiful source of energy below our feet. But, here in the early 21st Century, we simply don't know how to tap it in any systematic, efficient way. It's a heck of a technological challenge: How are we going to run heat exchangers miles deep under the earth's surface? Society needs to financially support research & development of geothermal.

Yes, my geothermal heatpump does 75% of the work. When it cant keep up the gas heater kicks on. I wish my house was more efficient so I could use 100% geothermal heat.

Geothermal is not available to all of us, but it should be used where ever possible and cost efficient. I found out when I drilled a water well in the Colorado Rockies that water being pumped up from 230 feet down was 56 degrees! I wish I could have used that technology at that time, but I was out of money and had to settle for a wood stove. Got darn tired of cutting wood every winter!

We should consider all options, wind, photocell, geothermal and whatever technologies that is available. Also I hope that the US. Government decides on a direction for the auto companies to go, fuel cell, hybrid, electric or any of the other technology that are available. The auto companies can’t commit to a technology until they know that there is going to be the infrastructure to support it. I live in middle Georgia (USA) and I am going through my house and insulation as much as I can. When I get a good idea on how much it will take to heat and cool my house I plan on looking at geothermal as one of my options. So far I have replaced all of the windows and doors, added insulation in the attic to bring it up to 18" and I am finished reinsulated 2 rooms (I pull down the drywall and insulation on the outside walls, fur out the wall studs to hold 6" insulation bating then replace the drywall.) I have 5 rooms to go.

Yes we should, This needs to come from urban planners and engineers. You better believe this energy source is under great scrutiny right now. As soon big business can control it the push will go forward. Big business is not going to help with it's RD unless profit can be controlled and maintained. The thought of individual residents being able to eliminate this relationship scares the shit out of them.

Geothermal is by far the best choice. It is a very concentrated energy source with a very high heat differential. Just by tapping into the culdera at Yellow Stones, the we could replace all other forms of energy. It is clean and is the only source that does not create more heat, since the heat energy is transformed into work energy. The energy contained at Yellow stone could easily sustain us for the next 100,000 years. Furthermore, we have a great deal of experience with this energy source. There is a plant in California that has been supplying electricity for 400,000 homes since 1950. It is one of the easiest sources to engineer.
