The resource I use when I have any gardening questions at all is free -- it's http://www.gardenweb.com You can put "golden elder" in the search box, OR you could visit their Tree Forum and ask the question there. Everyone there has always been kind and helpful to me. Be sure to tell them how big your tree is, and where you live (so they can figure out your frost zone, which might affect WHEN you should prune this tree). Good luck!
