I have a 2002 ford ranger, and when the truck is in neutral or park i try to take it up to 3 to 4 thousand rpms and it starts to cut out... What will cause this to happen?

    I'm not a mechanic by any means but i can think of a few reasons/problems.
    1. It may have bad fuel.
    2. It may have bad spark plugs.
    3. Could have a filthy air filter.
    4. Could be a safety device that keeps you from over revving in neutral or park to keep you from blowing the motor.

    Thats all i can think of.

    Ford puts rev limiters on the trucks to prevent it from "blowing up" it's for your safety and the engines safety

    it can be taken off with a tuner or at the dealership. There is no reason for you to rev it that high anyways
