Interesting question. I believe each of those extremes has negative connotations so people use pejoratives to refer to them.

There are so many variables to this question that I can think of just a few: 1)Geography -- born where there's no way to get out of poverty 2)Handicaps 3)Illness (physical and mental) 4)Some are born into wealth 5)Hard work pays off for some people 6)Some don't work for financial security 7)Value and wealth is not necessarily connected with monetary riches The list is endless!
