  • If you live in West Virgina it's ok....
  • Not if you live in West Virginia. It's expected and may be required by law
  • No. It's perfectly legal in England (where I'm from). It seems a little bit odd to me, but only because I can't imagine my nieces and nephews marrying. There's nothing inherently wrong with it though, if you love each other then go for it!
  • if you find love , go for it, as long as it aint immediate family..ie bruv sis, mum, dad. Life is too short.
  • I dont know that its legal or illegal, but marrying first cousins and having children can cause serious genetic defects. Alot of research says that the chances for defects are doubled. It also says that even though its doubled its still not enough to discourage people from doing it. Take your chances where you will, but with children, I wouldn't. Otherwise, live love and be happy!
  • It doesn't seem right. I have no cousins so I can't relate, but the thought of my son marrying one of my nieces? Blech!! Plus it may be illegal in some provinces and states.
  • No its not wrong at all. If you follow the christian faith it states in the bible that you can marry your first cousin.
  • Jerry Lee Lewis did it, and was scorned by many. She was only 13 I think he was like maybe 23...not sure of his age at that time .
  • ya i would have to say my opinion on that is thats gross and something i could never do, i think thats still condsidered in the whole area of being incest but hey whatever floats your boat. :)
  • ummm... depends on what you meen by wrong. In the eyes of christianity it is...its insest. The reason it is so taboo by modern standards is that you and your cousin are not geneticly far enough apart and thier is a risk that any kids you have may have defects. personaly though, I find the consept a tad od and the word hick or hillbilly comes to mind but I guess your not out killing people so eh....
  • Well it's perfectly legal where I'm from. Not something I'd ever do, but I wouldn't judge you for it.
  • I think what you should think about is the risks if you decide to have children. My cousin suffers from autism for this very reason. It's proven to damage the offspring, but if you plan to adopt, then it will clearly have no affect on the children. As long as you're smart about it.
  • Here's some research for you there young winston... Is inbreeding unusually common in Appalachia? Here's where things get murky. Although the public and many social scientists have long assumed that isolated hill folk often marry their cousins, and some certainly do (ask the Fugates), research on the subject is pretty thin. The most comprehensive look I've found is a 1980 paper ("Night Comes to the Chromosomes [etc]," Central Issues in Anthropology) by Robert Tincher, who at the time was a grad student at the University of Kentucky. Having dug through 140 years' worth of marriage records in a remote four-county region of eastern Kentucky, Tincher argues that (a) yeah, cousin marriage happens in the hill country, but (b) rates vary widely from place to place and even among families in a given district, and (c) it isn't conspicuously more prevalent than in a lot of other places. Point (c) isn't all that persuasive; Tincher's numbers show that as late as 1950 inbreeding was well above what could be accounted for by chance--married couples on average were approximately third cousins. However, the rate had dropped sharply since the peak after the Civil War, when the average couple were somewhere between second cousins and second cousins once removed. What's more, the rate fell quickly after 1950--no doubt due to postwar prosperity, urbanization, and so on--and by 1970 was no higher than you'd likely find in the general population.
  • wow I could never imagine marrying one of my first cousins we are way to close to each other for hat but if you have found love then good luck, just take into account that any children that you have wll most likely end up being handicapped.
  • Not if you live in Kentucky or West Virginia. LOL!! J/K. yeah thats pretty messed up no matter where your from.
  • gross that is disgusting you sociopath
