It is entitrely up to the parents until the girl reaches 18. Some will allow them as early as five. Others insist that they wait until 13 or 14. Some insist they wait until 18. It's just a matter of personal perception.

I've seen babies in bikini's. It is up to the parents. I find it strange that so many people seem to think it inappropriate to wear a bikini until adulthood. Is this an American thing?

I think the question should be when should they start wearing the top half! I think i wore my first one when I was 18 months or 2. We used to spend a month in the med every summer so it was perfectly normal to run around in just a pair of bottoms! I wore bikini bottoms up until about the age of ten then started wearing the top half as I became shy!

I had a bikini when I was two. I don't think it matters a whole lot. One pieces only cover the stomach and back in comparison.

I was wearing one as a really young child. More of a little crop top, but the same thing. I don't see the problem at all.

Whatever my daughters feel comfortable in... their choice. My 9 year old has always chosen them. My 14 year old did, but stopped between the ages of 10-13, but now she does again. It should be a personal choice for the kids, not the parents!

Oh come on. I wore a bikini at about two. There's nothing wrong with little girls running about on a beach without a bloody coat and balaclava. Why anyone is trying to sexualise the idea of a child wearing a bikini, I don't know.

Well, I guess around 10 it becomes awkward for some people, and at that, I'd say around 14 should be fine. But, as someone already said, when they have breasts to hold it up, it's okay.

Growing up I had rules regarding the bikini. Booty coverage was key and no sliding triangle tops but other than that I've worn them as long as I can remember.
