You're reading Why do teachers force their own political view points upon their students?
Comments
Not to think differently as in having a different opinion, but to think differently by using all the thinking tools at ones' disposal. That is more important than subjects. Students can tach themselves facts if they have the tools to gather information and assimilate it. They can also form their own views with those tools. That is what I meant.

I guess I get upset because as Tony stated, many teachers DO think they can brainwash kids. A teacher repeatedly humiliated my 2 oldest sons [in FIRST and SECOND grade], had 3 years total with them [you know once they got away from her, she'd get the other, then she was re-assigned a different grade]... She would stand them up in front of the class and yell at them and tell everyone not to speak to them because they refused to partake in her holiday plans. Made one hold a stuffed rabbit, surrounded him w/ kids, & took a pic which she then turned into an Easter card & displayed on the wall. She'd tell them one thing, and the rest of the class something else, so they'd come unprepared for projects, field trips, then tell them they were stupid, not listening etc... Lied to my face, called them liars when I confronted her. I pointed out her card to bust her. I am suspicious of many teachers now.

That is a very painful experience and a serious abuse of power. Most teachers are not like that. They are dedicated and compassionate professionals. I am sorry that happened to your children. It should not have happened.

Hey, thanks- had they not been so young [and respectful], it would not have bothered me. They used to cry and say they just wanted to run away [from her]. Now, they would argue, or a teacher wouldn't dare. It was a remote island, she was white [as am I], the kids Alaskan Native. She was also a bigot- some of them have been overheard saying things like, "Well, you know these Native kids just aren't capable of learning as much..." and periodically, they were fired and kicked off the island. Took them YEARS to discover her prejudice.

There HAS to be some way of accurately assessing teachers- Jay Leno LOVES the dumb ones on Jaywalking. I think it's an embarrassment. You can't go by the kids' test scores; every time someone tries THAT, some teacher or principal gets busted for altering grades [so as not to look so bad- smarter kids =job security...]. Like day care workers-- they have our kids-- they really need to be GOOD.... ~sigh~ Thanks again!

They should teach you how to think. They shouldn't teach you WHAT to think.
