No, a jet airliner CANNOT jettison a jet engine or engines during flight because of all the intricate connections and attachments that is linked with the wing and engine. It would also cause the plane to become unbalanced in both weight and thrust, assuming it was a two-engine plane. Jettisoning an engine would also be considered very dangerous. It's like dropping a bomb over an unknown area. If the plane jettisoned an engine over a populated area, there would be a high risk of casualties. People on the ground might assume that they're being bombed. It would just instill fear and create chaos.

If an engine is forced to stop in flight for any apparent reason i.e. engine stall, missile hit, severe bird ingestion, etc. and causes a fire, the engine can be shut down from the cockpit by pulling the engine fire handle located at the top of the cockpit between the pilot and copilot. Some aircraft even have halon extinguishers that will completely take a fire out in a couple of seconds.

The loss of an engine will create an unbalanced thrust. To compensate for the loss, the aircraft must use its rudder to straighten the plane's path because it will fly in a continuous circular path.

No. One reason is because they are extremely expensive. Additionally, there is no need to. If the engine does catch on fire, the pilot/copilot can turn off fuel supply to that engine, and the fire will burn itself out in a matter of seconds.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no commercial jets currently in production, that offer that as an option. If you're thinking of fire, they DO have internal fire suppression methods.

    Definitely no!

They do fall off once in a while. Years ago, a Boeing 727 had a leaky toilet. A frozen chunk let loose, fell into a pod engine, and the whole thing ripped off. Reportedly, the pilots did not know that the engine was actually missing until they were back on the ground, and ATC told them. Naturally, they knew it wasn't functioning while airborne, but didn't know it had flown off.

Like everybody else said, no. Interesting that the question should come up though. I'm really curious why anybody would find that useful/necessary. One thing that CAN be jettisoned or "dumped" is jet fuel.
