It is part of the implied 'Social Contract'. You were educated so you have to help pay to educate the young. Which do you think is the more cost effective method to handle education? To pay for the education they need in order to learn to function as productive members of society or to pay for their incarceration because you didn't want to educate them?

I just feel as though i shouldnt be responsible to paying for someone elses child to go to school...That is the responsibility of a parent..not myself that has no kids..I dont understand how i am just automaticaly responsible to do so

Because if children are not educated, society will fall apart. We need children to have what takes to function properly in society. It they don't get a decent education, they will not build useful things, they will not pay taxes to run the economy, and they may turn to crime because they cannot earn any other way. Just everybody benefits from good roads, everybody benefits from well educated citizens.

Because.. a - You went to school. And now you're paying for that education. b - Do you REALLY think what you're paying will cover the cost of the schooling for one child, over the 5 years you're sending them? NO! You're paying a lifetime amount to contribute towarsd the total cost of the schooling, it's a progressive thing. So, instead of paying what, 10k US a year when you do have kids, it's easier to make you pay 1k a year for alot longer. If you don't like it, you're welcome to move to a different country where you do agree with tax laws?

Do you want to have a hospital full of educated physicians and nurses or would you like a hospital full of uneducated misfits? Somebody has to pay for the childrens education and I would assume that at some point in your life you will reap the benefits.

We all benefit from a literate and educated society. We are all harmed when out workers are illiterate and unskilled.

what other taxes are on your bill? I would bet there are more that you pay that you probably don't access that service at this point in your life. For instance in many areas there could be a tax for: Library Fire Dept Cemetery's Water Districts LAFCO AIR Quality Schools I for one pay 4 of the above and never use 1 of them and have no way of access 1 of the other ones and as for the school one, my kids are long grown but I have no problem its my town I'm helping support. I look at this way I pay my tax's just like every one else and this gives me a voice in what goes on in my community when things are happening and I'm also helping support it to, after all if we don't all do our part the place will fall apart....

THATS WHAT I CALL IT UNFAIR. ALL PROPERTY OWNERS PAY FOR SCHOOL TAXES, EVEN IF THEIR NOT MARRIED AND DONT HAVE KIDS. IN MY OPINION ITS A RIP-OFF. IN WASHINGTON STATE THE POLITICIANS RIP OFF THE PEOPLE NORMALLY. THEY TELL THE PEOPLE THEY NEED $100 MILLION FOR ROADS, THEN WE VOTE YES, SO THE DOT ENGINEERS PUT SQUARE OR ROUND METAL OBJECTS 3 INCHES BELOW THE STREETS, HIGHWAYS, INTERSTATES SO CARS WILL HIT THEM AND KNOCK THEIR ALIGNMENT OUT, CAUSING THEIR TIRES TO WEAR IN WRONG AREAS. EACH PROPERTY OWNER PAYS FOR PORT TAX, EVEN FROM THE MOUNTAINS. THEN BUSH RAISES THE ECONOMY FROM MILLIONS TO BILLIONS AND NOW EVERYONE IS IN DEBT. ITS UNFAIR FOR ALL THIS TO BE. NOW OBAMA'S GOING TO DEPLEAT OUR RESERVES AND WILL WANT $8 TRILLION IN TAXES FROM EVERYONE, THEN HE'LL AS PRESIDENT BORROW FROM MUSLIM OIL AND IN 2 YEARS. MUSLIM OIL WILL WANT A FULL PAYOFF FROM AMERICA AND OBAMA WILL GIVE THE TELLIBON ONE OR TWO STATES FOR A INSIDE ATTACK= FROM WITHIN. I EVEN HEAR OBAMA'S GOING TO GIVE ALL GOVERNORS ON COASTLINES BILLIONS OF OUR BAILOUT FOR THE HELL OF IT. THEN PULL ALL TROOPS HOME FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD AND LAY THEM OFF, THEN LAY OFF OUR MAIN FORCES, SO TELIBONN CAN TAKE CARE OF US. MUSLIMS WANT FEMALE SLAVES. MIKE

Because you are a part of the community, and we all benefit from educated individuals in one way or another.

You are paying for the next generation of business leaders, politicians and peace officers. I for one want the best educated for the future generations.
