I think that would be more of daydreaming or staring off into space. I'm not sure if you can have R.E.M. with your eyes open, but then again, does one have to dream to be considered sleeping? I'm not sure. Good question!

I can space out and meditate, but not sleep.
-
I wouldn't know, I'm asleep when I sleep...
-
yah I usually do it mostly in my English class that too when it is after lunch. My classmates renamed it as Drowzy class as every one do what I do.
-
I don't personally, but my mum used to look after a little boy, who regularly slept with his eyes open, it used to scare me because I was only young myself and it looked really weird.
-
i used to when i was a baby, my dad as told me he used to think i was awake but i was asleep really, my bf said ive done it a few times aswell and it freiked him out LOL
-
I don't sleep with my eyes open. But I've heard that some people actually do.
-
I cant but my dog does. It,s a bit weird actually, but at least she keeps an eye on things when she sleeps..

Yes, people who have lost their eyelids due to physical injury sleep witht heir eyes open. Obviously they have patches or blindfolds offered to them, but that is just the same as turning out the lights really, it just blocks out the light similar to eyelids.
-
I occasionaly sleep with them open; I've been to the doctor numerous times about it, but the only thing they suggest is "sewing the eyelids together at the ends in order to help keep them closed at night." As if I'm gonna have someone thread my eyes together though, lol. It can freak people out, & tends to give me dry eyes (sometimes)...but whatever, some people tend to find it fascinating =)

I used to be able to get some rest with my eyes open when I was in Army Basic training. You learn how to doze while standing in formation, in line, marching, etc since you only got about 4 hours of sleep a night for 9 weeks.

My boyfriend recently has told me that he has caught me several times sleeping with my eyes open. I find that very strange..but I don't know that Iam doing it. Wonder what causes it, it kinda freaks me out.

In physics class back in high school, yes. But after that I lost the ability hehehe.

Myself, no. I do have a friend that used to sleep with one eye open...seriously. He would fall asleep in his chair, one eye shut tight, the other, half-open. It was creep as hell.

I have been told by roommates that I sometimes sleep with my eyes open. Not wide open, but open enough for someone else to think you are awake. Ive seen my mother and my sister do it too. I never thought too much about it, and its definitely not a conscious choice, but just happens sometimes!

When I was still a scrappy teen a bunch of my friends and I crashed a party with our sleeves rolled up--and I masterminded the ordeal. I was really expecting some sort of attempt at retribution, but there was none.
