This could be so many things. It is very difficult to answer a car question without looking at it or knowing everything about the problem. If there was no warning, the question would be does your ignitor click when you turn the key to start it. Also, does any of the electrical work in your car. If all of the electrical isn't working, it may be as simple as one of your connections to the anodes on your battery isn't on. It may be just enough off that it isn't giving the car any power. Otherwise, it could be that your timing belt snapped. Your distributor is fried. Cam shaft snapped or broke in some fashion. Or if you haven't put oil in your car for about 2 1/2 years, the engine might have just froze, but even then you'd most likely get a temperature spike. It could also be that your temperature gadge isn't working and your car overheated, but then you'd have seen smoke. Most likely, I would suggest checking the timing belt. You can get an instruction manual from your local auto parts store or buy it on-line and that will tell you how to service everything on your car.

I agree with omnipotent1. The question does not have enough information. In addition to his suggestions, I would also like to suggest that it could be a shorted alternator or—as obvious as it may be—you ran out of gas. I had my vehicle die three times without warning. The first time I ran out of gas, the second time my alternator shorted, and the third time I ran out of gas.

This is a professional automechanic speaking. While a few things can cause this to happen the most likely thing is that the alternator went out. If the alternator went out when you were driving, the car would draw power from the battery intill the battery was dead then the car would stall and not start. The only other possibility is bad electrical wiring to the alternator but this is unlikely.
