    Yes. They are usually Lithium Ion based. They last longer than typical rechargeable batteries.

    YEs, they hold a charge longer and recharge faster. They power the flash more efficiently.

    I always carry a few, but am satisfied with a set of rechargable ones with a recharger about 20 bucks, that do a good job under average circumstances. Much more econmical than lithium.
