The original Colts team began play in 1946 as the Miami Seahawks, a member of the upstart All-America Football Conference. • They started as the Baltimore Colts. They moved to Indianopolis because their owner Robert Irsay wanted the city officials in Baltimore help pay for a new stadium and many other refreshments. The officials did not call his bluff. The state of Maryland's administration warned him that the city would give Baltimore the right to take hold of the team by "emminent domain". Robert Irsay secretly compromised a deal with Indianapolis. The Indianapolis agreed to give the team a $12.5 million loan, a $4 million training complex, and the use of the college of Indiana's Hoosier Dome. After striking this deal he literally snuck the team out of Baltimore using 18-wheelers to ship the equipment and office supplies to Indianapolis. This caused a lot of uproar in the legal system between the Baltimore, Indianapolis, Irsay, and the Colts. The cities, teams and owners reached an agreement. The Colts would endorse a new football team for Baltimore
