I guess for the same reason women feel the need to hide things from their partners. Human behavior drives us to acceptance from others close to us but sometimes we do things we do not wish others to judge us over so we hide those things so people to think of us as bad. Men and women both do this and none any more than the other.

When your partner is hiding things from you, that means he has something to hide. He may believe that if you find out about whatever he's hiding, you will leave him. A man like this will want to be the one to leave the relationship--he won't want you to go. He would even promise anything, lie to you or get angry just to keep you from leaving. Chance are the "things" are not completely hidden. There are signs he's doing this. You obviously found some...just an observation based on your question. So, let's rephrase your question: Why do woman think they have to put up with men who hide things from them?

Because men don't like being asked too many questions and having to think on their feet. If they don't say too much then they have less to answer for. Of course it all back fires but trying to change anyones perception on this is almost impossible. However I have to say that its not only men. Women hide stuff just as much eg. new shoes - what new shoes?!!

I think that guilt has a lot to do with it. They don't want their partners to think less of them because they like to gamble, look at porn, or sneak drinks out in the garage.

Oh, come on! Women don't? You will go for years without saying something and then blow up all of a sudden. More women leave their men than vice versa. Puh-lease.

Because men love their partners. They do not want to hurt their partner's feelings. They know their partners will not approve off everything they are fond of doing. They do not want their partners to be unduly concerned or worried for their own sake. Men do not want to unload all their burden on to their partner's shoulders. They want their partners to have peace of mind. But they end up ending their partner's peace of mind. Men do feel sorry for what they have done. But they are incapable of finding the right way to go about making peace with their partners.

That is an over generalization. Take me, for example. The only thing I like to hide is my weenie. Thankfully, she usually acknowledges where it is:)

Not all men do. And some women are just as devious as the men. But it really all boils down to personal choice not generalizations.
