Help answer this question below.
I'll admit this anonymously. I once went at about age 20 when in college, with my girlfriend into an "adult bookstore" we thought was the "garden variety type" - typical magazines, videos, and overpriced cheap toys.
Well, it turned out to be a bizarre place where people hung out (literally) on 2 lower levels, in corners and in little booth rooms that showed movies on the backs of the doors. We heard all kinds of moans, groans, "ouchs," "ooohs," etc. Sounded like people having fun, not so much fun, pain fun, and other stuff I didn't even want to think about. It also had a very "earthy" smell to it.
We were stupid and adventuresome, so we walked around slowly for about 15 minutes, then got scared when a guy and his woman (??) friend approached us, and asked us if we wanted to join them below in a special place. Six months later, the cops raided it and closed it down. I guess they found all kinds of drugs and drug paraphenalia, a few he/shes, prostitutes, some illegal torture type stuff, some minors, and alot of very dirty rooms and discarded clothing.
It cost $5.00 to get in, so I guess they figured for that much you were serious and would stay awhile. I am just glad I wasn't there the day or night they raided it, since they took all 20 or so people to jail, published their names, and all that. That would have been the end of my college tuition paid for by my parents if I had been caught!
PS: I am posting this because I miss AB and also I am getting ready for bed, and I felt "OK" and one wouldn't kill me.
A jewellery store that sold live cockroach jewellery. They were pretty big ones and had rinestones glued on their backs and little chains, like leashes. They were worn pinned to the chest like a brooch, or like a sparkly cockroach on a leash pinned on your chest.
A voodoo store in downtown New Orleans. It had real shrunken heads, and other strange things.
In college I had a boyfriend attending Penn and went to visit him in Philadelphia. We were walking around on South Street and found a store that sold only wind-up toys. They had really old ones and all kinds of elaborate ones, and you got to try them out. That was a lot of fun. I liked a little nun who walked around smacking a ruler and had sparks shoot from her mouth.
Bizarre Bazar in Houston. Weird kinky stuff...
I may sound a little conservative-but I went to Tabboo and it was weird!!! It has half naked figurines of men in leather and stuff like that.
