    1) When I haven't been to a place before, or it's been awhile, I always like to start with a city tour. That way, you can get a good overview and see where you want to head back to.

    2) Alcatraz is extremely interesting. I'd highly recommend it.

    3) Chinatown for wandering and a meal.

    4) Take a cable car ride for sure!

    5) Don't forget Lombard Street, the world's (I think) crookedest street.

    6) Do take a harbor cruise. SF has one of the most beautiful harbors in the world. And of course wander around Fisherman's Wharf- that's a no-brainer. Some great waterfront shopping and dining. Try some to die for sourdough bread!!

    7) Get out to Saucelito, the beautiful artist's colony. You can get a ferry there from SF.

    8) Take a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.

    9) If you have a car, I'd highly recommend getting up to Muir Woods, an amazing grove of redwood trees! Get there early if you do go. You could also head up to Napa or Sonoma if you like wineries.

I was there last summer. Make sure you go to a few vinyards in wine country. They have tours if you want to drink a lot and not worry about DUI. Go for a hike in Muir Woods (huge old redwood trees). Rent a bike and pedal across the Golden Gate bridge and spend a few hours in Sausalito(sp?)There's a ton of good restaurants in San Fran. Just go for a walk and check out the Victorian architecture, Haight Ashbury(sp?)if you're in to the hippie thing, there's some good museums, China town is pretty cool to walk around, go to a giants baseball game, take a three hour ride south along the coast to Carmel and do the 12 mile loop around the peninsula...really pretty. There's a ton of things to do. I'm sure I left a lot out.
