  • I've never payed any attention to it. Now, that you've mentioned it, I'll check it out. Most of the time when I wake up, I don't immediately remember if I was dreaming. I do get slightly upset though if I wake up from a really good dream. If I try to go back to sleep- I'm hoping I'll get back into the dream.
  • I think its the brain that makes the difference. Its the brain that is involved in dreams, its like being in a state of high frequency thought waves. When you wake in the middle all of a sudden, its like terminating the propagation of these waves abruptly rather than a smooth end. I think that's how it makes you tired.
  • The difference is REM sleep. In REM you dream, and your body (usually) enters a state of near paralysis. From what I understand, the other sleep state is less intense physically speaking (here is where you usually toss and turn).
