Any properly constructed dance floor should have bounce to it in order to make it easier on the dancers' knees. That give can only be accomplished with wood. Also dance shoes perform best on wood

There is a certain amount of give in wood which is kinder to the dancers joints. It is also a floor that you can use different resins etc on to stop slipping and falling it is by far the safest material as well as being the kindest.

Now a days more are a sprung or floating wooden floor covered with marley flooring. It is not just a wooden floor you are dancing on. I would hope it is a sprung floor at the least. This limits the amount of shock to your knees and joints.
