Rebuilt 350 Chevy Carb engine on an engine test stand. It runs fine, but the header collector on the #1 side gets cherry red where the other side doesn't. It's apparent one side is running much hotter than the other side. What's the problem?

Try looking for vacuum leaks, especially near that intake runner and gasket, check vacuum hoses(pinch them off and look for rpm change) near that runner. It sounds like one side of the rebuilt carb is not supplying enough fuel. If its a Quadrajet, one (of 2) of the fuel pick up tubes for that side of the engine may have fallen off. You have to pull the top of the carb off to check this, it is a thin brass tube. Do you have a 2-plane or single plane intake?

- Are you using an adapter plate for the carb? some carbs are spreadbore and others are square bore, sometimes folks user the wrong gaskets or adapter plate.

no but it would explain the #1 side turning cherry red. the side thats turning cherry red could have some air flow problems or a water cooling problem

your running your carb too lean. when you lean an engine out it gets extremely hot and does as you said, gets cherry red
